    Abstract: After a proper definition of gravitational waves (GWs) in General Relativity, we will study how gravitational wave (GW) backgrounds are generated in the early Universe, including scenarios from inflation, preheating, phase transitions and cosmic defects. For consistency, we will also discuss the status of observational constraints on these primeval backgrounds.



    Lectures will be held offline. 

    Registration is required; no registration fee.

    Lectures target particle physics graduate students, but any interested students and researcher are welcome.

    Snail Lecture (달팽이 강의) started in 2015 by CAU, Yonsei, Konkuk particle groups, and later with SNU in 2017. We decided to make opportunities for slow introduction of frontier topics in particle physics to graduate students. The 'slow' is our slogan (hence its name), in that we allow ample time in the whole Saturday afternoon for casual Q&A during the lecture. Over the years, we have received lots of encouragement and support from the community. Needless to say, APCTP's support from the beginning in 2015 has been central too.
